The Year That Was: 2009

December 31, 2009

As we sing in 2010 Auld Lang Syne style (or not) I am looking back at my best bits (fashion and beautywise, naturally) of 2009, or indeed the decade that was The Noughties.
2009 was the year The King of Pop Michael Jackson died, Katie & Peter divorced, Swine Flu threatened the country and Luella closed it’s doors (at least that’s what I can recall on the spot right now).

Here goes…

Best Budget Beauty Brand: Soap & Glory
-with it’s signature kitsch packaging, quirky product names and distinct scent, Soap & Glory is my favourite budget beauty brand of 2009. Relatively cheaply priced and available from Boots, Soap & Glory is a more affordable version of Benefit with a broad ranfe of luxuriously thick moisturisers and lathering body washes, and recently branching out in to make up and skin care products. The gift sets are excellent value for money and perfect for S&G virgins to give the products a try; (this is how I first discovered the brand thanks to a present from my Dad of all people) you won’t be disappointed. I recommend: Girligo Moisturiser Spray, Foot Buffer and Clean On Me Shower Gel.

Highly Commended: Batiste Dry Shampoo
– a morning after the night before lifesaver product for a wonderful £1.99. I literally go through a can a week and this is my can’t live without product for festivals and mornings when I just don’t have the time (so that’d be everyday then). Tip: use after blow drying for amazing volume.

Best Luxury Beauty Brand: Clinique
Highly Commended: Benefit

My Can’t live Without Beauty Products of 2009: Nars Blusher in Orgasm, YSL Touche Eclat, Benefit Browzings

Best Perfume: Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb
Highly Commended: Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess

Best Shop: American Apparel
Highly Commended: Beyond Retro/ Start Boutique, Rivington Street

Best Designer: Burberry Prorsum
Highly Commended: Christopher Kane/ Alexander Wang

Best Artist: Lady Gaga
Highly Commended: Friendly Fires
